The Wole Soyinka Museum (WS-Museum)

The Wole Soyinka Museum (WS-Museum) was a recent addition to the array of museums in the Obafemi Awolowo University. It was endowed and inaugurated in 2018 as one of the offshoots of the Ife Festival of Food and Identity hosted by the Institute of Cultural Studies, at which Emeritus Professor Wole Soyinka served as the Festival Director. The Wole Soyinka Museum was conceived to honour this great scholar and foremost African thinker who was the first Black African to win the coveted Nobel Prize in Literature as far back as 1986 while he was still a professor of Dramatic Arts in Obafemi Awolowo University.

The mission of the WS-Museum is to serve as an inspiration to the younger generation in the honing of artistic and cultural talents as a panacea to the endless travails of development and lack of opportunities facing the teeming population of African youth in the 21st century. Ultimately, the WS-Museum dreams of becoming a hub for the agglomeration of budding writers and creative artists, with adjoining camp-ground facilities for school children to project their aesthetics and talents.
